Developing Ideas

The “Moments In Joy” instrumental is a beat that had some memorable stages of evolutions and new ideas. It was amazing experience to make and I can say that I felt a bigger growth than previous productions on this sound piece. It was about finding the sound and pocket and how it related to the full arrangement.
The original beat looked a lot different from the final sound and it wasn’t so much that I didn’t like the prior sound..I just felt it was not at a certain level or evocative sound scape I wanted. When I added a new sound and chord progression the vision where the beat would go made sense. And that happens sometimes, you’ll add a certain sound and it’ll be a vital part to pushing the sound further; a real game changer.

(Side note: listen to the instrumental before reading the blog post and production notes on the piece. It makes for a better experience for the ride the music takes you; it’s the same with films)

Furthering The Arrangement and Vocal Sessions

From there the chorus parts came and I had Laurent who added vocal layers for the “You Get What Give” beat; add some layers to this piece as well. Laurent also introduced to Shantel Biston; a singer from NY who laid some vocal parts as well and took some of the lyrics writing I have in mind for this beat and filpped a little for a bridge part. The vocal instrument session were a dope time of just feeling things out and seeing where it goes. The ending arrangement idea came from when I posted a snippet of the beat in the pre-mixing stage on snapchat and I was swiping through filters and landed on the slow mo filter and I wasn’t sure what to think at first, at first but after replaying I was like this sounds cool and transformed the vibe to a new place. That’s the crazy you can stumble across ideas in the sound world in unexpected ways.

Moments In Joy

I remember being up till dawn at 7:00am morning doing the initial sound session and feeling a great joy of wow!..I like where this going. Making the melody progression and then added sound design choices. To then later revisit the beat months later and rearrange certain parts and add the culminating instrument to the piece was an amazing moment. These experiences creating art bring me closer to who I am and how I connect people through what I do as a creative producer of visuals, sound and movement. The lyrics for the piece relate to the title from different an experience, but the memories creating this instrumental relate all to well. Those are the best moments, the one’s you remember..that you can almost bring yourself back to that moment in joy and smile and look forward to the next moments like that ahead.
