Voice That Got To Flow Instrumental (Beat) Produced By Alex Gomes

The Voice That Got To Flow instrumental came about in session where I was exploring and experimenting with vocal sounds. I was looking for a bit of eerie yet smoothly interesting vocal sound. I also wanted this beat to have a hip hop feel, so I  added a 808 kick and then went about incorporating a snare that I felt had a hip hop feel. What the session ended up resulting in was me creating a simple yet catchy beat with some good bass; it was something a rapper could flow on.

Stepping It Up In The Chorus (What I Learned From This Track)

When I first made this beat I wasn’t sure if  I would give it a chorus section. But when listening to it I knew it needed something to take it up a notch and something to make it stand out a little more. So I laid out a chorus with a chord progression, added some harmonies, changed up the drum patterns and worked out transitions. but when listening the chorus I still didn’t feel like the Voice That Got To Flow instrumental was complete.

In the next session I added a bit more momentum to the verses, but still at that time I wasn’t sure of how I cold amp up the chorus. When I heard this new Childish Gambino song I got inspired to push the flow  instrumental forward and got idea off how I could up the chorus.

During the next I session I added more percussion, layered the chord progression some more and added some effects and automation to make the chorus lead and harmonies jump out and give this flow instrumental a progressively more modern feel yet still keep a hip hop vibe.

I was almost tempted to add more parts to the verse, but my gut told me I should leave it be and that I finished the beat (getting to learn/know my musical instincts). It was a good choice to have the verse be wonderfully minimalistic and then let chorus bring  interesting change.
